Level: |
Degree. |
Duration: |
32 weeks |
Description: |
This course offers in equal measure a basis for applications (in communications, for example) and an introduction to an essential part of our picture of the world. It develops the theory of electromagnetism from elementary principles based on observation to a full discussion of Maxwell's equations, which are then used to derive the properties of electromagnetic waves. The course is divided into five sections: mathematical preliminaries, electrostatics, magnetostatics, Maxwell's equations, electromagnetic waves. The language of vector analysis is developed in the first section and used extensively throughout the course. |
